Bomb Threat Emails to Five Karnataka Courts Found to Be Hoax; Security Checks Conducted
Bengaluru, January 6: Panic briefly gripped the judicial system across Karnataka after bomb threat emails were received by at least five courts, prompting emergency security measures and temporary disruption of court proceedings. Police investigations have since confirmed that the threats were hoax emails, with no explosives or suspicious materials found at any location.
According to police sources, a threatening email claimed that a bomb would explode at the Mysuru Old Court complex at around 1:55 pm, triggering immediate evacuation of judges, advocates, court staff, and litigants from the premises. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and forensic teams were rushed to the spot, and a thorough search was conducted.
Similar threat emails were also sent to the Dharwad High Court circuit, and district courts in Bagalkot, Gadag, and Hassan, leading to heightened security alerts across multiple judicial institutions. Court premises were sealed temporarily while anti-sabotage teams carried out intensive checks.
Police officials confirmed that no explosive devices or suspicious objects were recovered from any of the courts. After completing security sweeps, authorities declared the threats to be false but emphasized that such incidents are treated with utmost seriousness.
Cases have been registered at respective police stations, and cybercrime units have been tasked with tracing the origin of the threat emails. Investigators are examining IP addresses and email routing details to identify those behind the coordinated hoax.
Senior police officials stated that stringent action will be taken against the perpetrators, warning that issuing false bomb threats to courts is a grave offence that disrupts public institutions and creates unnecessary fear.
Court operations gradually resumed after security clearance was given, though police presence remains heightened as a precaution.
