Bengaluru: In a swift response to a viral social media video, the Bengaluru Police have arrested three youths, including a minor, in connection with a harassment case involving a woman commuter travelling from Jayanagar towards BTM Layout.

The incident came to light after Abhinav Vasudevan, a concerned citizen, recorded a video on December 24 showing a woman being followed and harassed by three individuals riding a motorcycle. He shared the footage on social media and tagged the police, stating that the woman was stalked for several kilometres before 10 pm.

On December 26, the victim identified herself on social media as Pavitra, an actor, and confirmed that she was the woman seen in the video. She stated that police had contacted her promptly and that she had formally narrated the ordeal.

According to her statement, the trio began following her soon after she left the Jayanagar Metro Station. They pursued her through quiet internal roads and continued tailing her onto the main road, causing fear and distress.

In an attempt to confront the situation, the woman slowed down at the Udupi Garden signal, where she managed to take a frontal photograph of the suspects. Realising they were being recorded, the accused attempted to flee, with one of them deliberately covering the rear number plate with his leg to avoid identification.

Based on the video evidence and follow-up investigation, police identified and arrested the accused:

  • Roshan (19) – employee at a chicken shop
  • Ayan (19) – employee at a chicken shop
  • One minor – employed at a local garage

An FIR has been registered, and all three accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Police officials reiterated that public vigilance and timely reporting play a crucial role in ensuring women’s safety in the city.
