Bengaluru: In his first official visit after assuming charge as Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Alok Thakur conducted a detailed inspection of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, sending out a strong message on tightening security and eliminating contraband from Karnataka’s correctional facilities.

Accompanied by senior prison and security officials, the Prisons DGP undertook a comprehensive walkthrough of the high-security jail to personally assess infrastructure, surveillance systems, and overall preparedness.

As part of efforts to modernise prison security, DGP Alok Thakur announced the trial deployment of an AI-based intrusion detection system. The advanced technology is designed to automatically flag unauthorised movement, suspicious activity, or potential breaches, significantly reducing dependence on manual patrolling alone.

Following the inspection, the DGP issued strict directives to overhaul the prison’s security framework, stressing seamless coordination between the Prison Department staff, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), and the local police.

He also ordered the immediate launch of special search operations inside the prison to identify and seize prohibited items.
“We must ensure quality investigation of cases registered within prisons. There will be zero tolerance towards contraband and prohibited items,” Alok Thakur stated.

The visit marks the beginning of a state-wide security push inside Karnataka prisons, with a focus on technology-driven surveillance, stricter enforcement, and enhanced accountability.
