Bengaluru: Three passengers were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after allegedly assaulting on-duty railway staff following an emergency alarm chain pulling incident on the Yeshvantpur–Vasco da Gama Express at Yeshvantpur Railway Station.

According to an official statement issued by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Bengaluru, the incident occurred during the scheduled departure of Train No. 17309. RPF personnel stationed on the platform noticed that the alarm chain had been pulled in Coach S3, forcing an unscheduled halt.

When RPF staff approached the coach to ascertain the reason for the chain pulling, a group of around 14 passengers reportedly refused to cooperate with the inquiry. The situation escalated rapidly, with some members of the group allegedly manhandling the RPF personnel and creating a law-and-order disturbance on the platform.

Additional security staff were immediately deployed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Following preliminary investigation, three passengers, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, were detained by the RPF.

“In this regard, three persons were found to be intoxicated and have been detained. Necessary legal action has been initiated against them as per railway rules and law,” the DRM Bengaluru said in a statement.

Railway authorities reiterated that misuse of the alarm chain and assault on railway staff are serious offences and warned that strict action will be taken against those disrupting passenger safety and railway operations.
