Belagavi/Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government is moving to simplify land conversion procedures by amending several sub-sections under Section 95 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda informed the Legislative Council on Tuesday.
Responding to a starred question by member Ramoji Gowda, the Minister said that amendments have been proposed to streamline the process of converting agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes. โConsultations have been held with multiple departments, and their recommendations have been incorporated. Necessary rules are now being finalised,โ he said.
The Minister dismissed suggestions that current conversion procedures are causing large-scale inconvenience to citizens, stating that no such complaints have reached the governmentโs notice.
To operationalise the amendments made to Section 95, the government issued a draft notification on September 17, 2025, to amend corresponding provisions in the Karnataka Land Revenue Rules, 1966. The final notification will be issued shortly, he added.
In a major reform aimed at supporting small industries, the Minister said that land conversion will not be required for industrial units up to two acres, allowing them to directly obtain planning approval.
Further, renewable energy projects have now been exempted from land conversion requirements, and rules are being framed regarding cases handled by revenue courts, he said.
