Home Minister says violence was pre-planned

UDUPI:

Following a request to the Centre, 6 teams of CRPF personnel will beef up the police bandobast in the riot-hit KJ Halli and DJ Halli areas of Bengaluru. Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he had spoken to the Union Home Secretary and 3 teams each will arrive from Hyderabad and Chennai.

Speaking to reporters in Manipal on Wednesday, Bommai said the situation is under control and the deaths of 3 persons in the police firing will be discussed with the CM and senior officials.

Further arrests have been made on the basis of material evidence, including CCTV footage. Bommai called the riots ‘pre-planned’ and said 110 persons had been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s incidents of assault, arson and vandalism.

The Home Minister said the police succeeded in controlling the situation within 3 hours of the riots breaking out. Additional police forces have been deployed in the trouble-hit areas as a precautionary measure.
