BENGALURU:

Within a span of a few days, Bengaluru has reported the death of a second policeman from Covid-19. This also marks the second death of a policeman statewide.

The death takes Bengaluru’s Covid fatalities to 61. On Saturday, the state capital crossed the ‘thousand’ mark with 1,076 positive cases, of which 621 – the highest in Karnataka — are active cases.

As per police sources, the 56-year-old staffer was a head constable with the Kalasipalya police station. He tested positive two days ago and was admitted to Victoria Hospital.

Another eight cops who tested positive were contacts of a woman constable who had earlier tested positive for the virus.

Last week, an ASI from the VV Puram traffic police station, who died following a heart attack, was shown to be infected posthumously.

Another ASI tests positive

Meanwhile, another ASI attached to the Wilson Garden traffic police station tested positive on Saturday. His primary and secondary contacts are being traced.
