BBMP cracked the whip against non-conforming private hospitals on Thursday and shut 19 such hospitals for not allocating 50 per cent of beds for government Covid referrals.
BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad had warned private hospitals to comply with the government’s orders or face action under the NDMA. Following on, South zone health officials sealed the 19 ‘truant’ hospitals.
A team led by Health Officer Dr M Shivakumar put up banners in front of the hospitals stating that they had been temporarily sealed for not adhering to the government’s order. The hospitals are situated in Basavanagudi, Vijayanagar, Padmanabhanagar, BTM Layout and Chickpet. Similar action is expected in BBMP’s East zone, a source said.
Munish Moudgil, state war room chief, said that under section 58 of the NDMA, criminal cases will be booked against hospital owners and CEOs who fail to obey government orders to give 50% beds for government referrals.
