With the new cases reported in Bidar, the total number of positive cases in Karnataka has gone up to 121.

“This is a community spread and it’s high time for Karnataka to take more precautionary steps so that it doesn’t spread widely and create havoc in the state,” said health department officials.

Bidar district Deputy Commissioner Mahadev confirmed the development, saying, “We had information of 27 people who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation and had returned to Bidar. Samples of all 27 have been taken out of which 11 are Covid-19 positive and all of them have been isolated in a designated hospital in Bidar. Reports of the others are awaited and hence they are under home quarantine.”

The Deputy Commissioner said family members of the 11 positive cases are also being monitored and are in home quarantine. “We are not leaving anything to chance and ensuring that the disease doesn’t spread all over the district. As per protocol, a 3-km area where the positive cases have been reported has been declared as a containment zone while around 5 km has been declared a buffer zone. We have stopped all kinds of movement in these areas,” Mahadev added.
