Chief Minister Bommai does the inauguration honours
HOSPET:
Vijayanagar district was officially ‘birthed’ by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai here on Saturday. With this, Karnataka’s 31st district has become a reality.
Bommai issued the government order on the formation of the new district, carved out of Ballari district.

The historic occasion was marked by fireworks and cheering crowds at the new district’s administrative capital of Hospet.
Bommai laid the foundation for 56 various public works in the newly formed district on the occasion.
Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Ministers Anand Singh, Govind Karjol, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, CC Patil, Byrathi Basavaraj, B Sriramulu and Sunil Kumar were among the dignitaries present.
