Varamahalakshmi festival celebrated with fervour

A large number of women thronged major temples across the city as they celebrated Varamahalakshmi festival with fervour on Friday.

At temples coming under the Hindu Religious Institutions And Charitable Endowments Department, women devotees were given vermillion-turmeric and bangles as a traditional offering.

Temples under the Muzrai department presented women with vermillion-turmeric, green bangles and blouse pieces.

“On the directions of the Muzrai minister and in line with the notification issued by the Endowment commissioner, we will give vermillion-turmeric and bangles and blouse pieces to all women devotees. We expect at least 5,000 women devotees and there will be special decoration of the deity”, said Lakshmi of the Banashankari temple trust.

The KR Market was teeming with festival shoppers.

The KR Market in the city too was abuzz with festival shoppers buying flowers, fruits and other essentials right from early in the morning. The rush led to a traffic jam on the road. The prices of fruits and flowers had skyrocketed on account of the festival.

The Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi temple near Tumakuru was all decked up.

At the famous Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi temple in Tumakuru district, there were special pujas and other rituals right from the Brahmi muhurta. The temple was also decorated wil flowers and devotees flocked from other districts and states too.
