Bengaluru, July 4: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy held a high-level meeting with leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers and industry stakeholders in Bengaluru to discuss strategies for strengthening India’s electric mobility ecosystem, boosting domestic manufacturing and enhancing the country’s global export competitiveness.

The meeting, held at HMT Bhavan in Bengaluru, focused on accelerating indigenous production of electric two-wheelers and developing a robust, innovation-driven supply chain capable of competing in international markets.

Senior executives from leading EV manufacturers, charging infrastructure companies and technology firms participated in the discussions and shared their recommendations on policy support, infrastructure requirements and industry priorities.

Focus on Indigenous Manufacturing

Addressing the meeting, Kumaraswamy emphasised the importance of strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and promoting locally developed technologies to build a globally competitive electric vehicle ecosystem.

He reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to establish India as a major global manufacturing hub for electric two-wheelers through innovation, localisation and technological advancement.

The Minister said India must increase domestic production capacity while creating a strong ecosystem for EV components, technology development and supply-chain resilience.

Export-Oriented Growth Strategy

The discussions also focused on expanding India’s electric vehicle exports by improving domestic value addition and aligning Indian manufacturing with global quality standards.

Industry representatives highlighted opportunities to accelerate local production, strengthen component manufacturing and significantly enhance India’s export potential in the rapidly growing global EV market.

Industry Seeks Expansion of PM E-DRIVE Scheme

Representatives from the EV industry shared their feedback on the PM E-DRIVE scheme and urged the government to expand its scope in line with the sector’s evolving requirements.

The delegation also discussed the need to review and strengthen the PLI Auto Scheme to better support the growing electric mobility sector and encourage greater investments in domestic manufacturing.

Zero-Emission Mobility a National Priority

Kumaraswamy said promoting electric mobility is essential to reducing carbon emissions and achieving India’s long-term sustainability goals.

He stressed that manufacturing electric two-wheelers that meet global standards has become a national priority and will play a significant role in India’s clean energy transition.

Commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat

The Union Minister reaffirmed the Central Government’s commitment to building a world-class manufacturing ecosystem that enables Indian companies to innovate, compete globally and contribute to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.

The meeting was attended by several prominent industry leaders, including: Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO, Ather Energy, Mihir (Mihal) Lalbhai, Founder and CEO, Matte, Aravind Mani, Co-founder and CEO, River, Saurav Kumar, Founder and CEO, Euler Motors, Dinesh Arjun, Co-founder and CEO, Raptee HV.

The discussions are expected to contribute to future policy decisions aimed at accelerating India’s electric mobility transition while strengthening domestic manufacturing and export capabilities.
