Udupi Food Safety Officials Seize 10,890 Kg Bananas Allegedly Ripened Using Chemicals, Stock Worth ₹8.71 Lakh
Bengaluru/Udupi, August 20: Food Safety and Drugs Administration officials in Udupi conducted surprise raids at establishments allegedly using chemicals to ripen bananas and seized 10,890 kg of chemically ripened bananas valued at an estimated ₹8,71,200 on Thursday.
The operation was conducted by Udupi Designated Officer/Sub-Divisional Officer Rashmi on August 20, 2026, at establishments in Alevoor, Kemtur and Duglipadavu villages.
According to the information provided, officials found bananas allegedly being ripened using chemicals during the inspections. The affected stock was seized as part of the enforcement action.
A total of 10,890 kg of bananas, with an estimated value of ₹8.71 lakh, was seized and kept in a godown.
