Two Workers Killed, Three Injured in Earth Cave-In at BDA Kanteerava Studio Underpass Site
Bengaluru: Two construction workers were killed and three others injured after a portion of earth caved in at the BDA Kanteerava Studio underpass construction site on Tuesday, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) said.
The incident occurred around 10.45 am while work was underway at the site. The project is being executed on a turnkey basis by PJB Engineers Pvt. Ltd., the appointed contractor. Five workers were affected in the cave-in.
The deceased were identified as Sonaram from Odisha and Parimal Baashak from West Bengal.
The injured workers were identified as Sadanand from Jharkhand, Imrias from Chhattisgarh and Sunil Kalkor from Jharkhand. They are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The BDA said it would bear their medical expenses and extend necessary assistance to them and their families.
The BDA Chairman has ordered an independent enquiry into the cause of the accident. The enquiry committee will comprise a retired judge and a retired chief engineer and has been asked to submit its report within 45 days.
The BDA said efforts were underway, in coordination with the Labour Department and the respective district administrations, to send the mortal remains of the deceased workers to their native places.
The authority announced compensation of ₹8 lakh each to the families of the two deceased workers.
