Railways responds to Chief Secretary’s emergency request
BENGALURU:
Amid the Road Transport Corporation employees’ strike, South Western Railway has responded positively to Karnataka Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar’s request to run special trains. According to an SWR official, 18 special trains will run to various destinations till April 14.
“The Railway Board has approved running of the following Special Express trains with a special fare, due to the strike of Karnataka Road Transport Corporation employees and for clearing the extra rush for the upcoming Ugadi festival,” the official said.
The special trains will run to Hubballi, Belagavi, Mysuru, Bidar, Karwar and Shivamogga city.


Festival rush
“This (the strike) will cause severe hardship to the travelling public. In addition, due to upcoming festivals, there will be a rush of people going out of Bengaluru to their native places,” the Chief Secretary had said in his letter to the General Manager of SWR.

The Chief Secretary had requested SWR for special trains on April 9 and 10.
