Tata Technologies to upgrade 150 ITIs in Karnataka: Yediyurappa

BENGALURU:

By developing the skills of the state’s youth, it will be possible to build a ‘Koushalya Karnataka’, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa noted while inaugurating the World Youth Skill Day organised by the Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department on Thursday.

As the second most populous country in the world, India has a huge human resource pool of youth in the 18-35 age group, he pointed out.

The CM said Karnataka has signed an agreement with Tata Technologies to upgrade 150 government ITIs at a cost of Rs 4,636.50 crore, work on which is expected to be completed by September.

The Government of Karnataka has developed the http://kaushalkar.com

web portal for the benefit of migratory workers and has been organising virtual job ‘melas’ through its Skill Connect web portal to facilitate placements in industries. Also, an International Migration Centre has been established to help youths find jobs in foreign countries, the CM added.

Four new Government Tool Room and Training centres will be established in the current year in order to provide skilled human resources to small and medium industries.

Funds for self-help groups

It is intended to release Rs 400 crore to 19,300 self-help groups as a Community Investment Fund under the National Rural Livelihood Campaign. So far, 17,121 self-help groups have received Rs149.03 crore, the CM said.

Last year, under the PM Swanidhi scheme, 1.10 lakh street vendors received Rs 10,000 as Investment Fund . This year, the government will provide Rs 20,000 to the vendors.
