65-year-old man sans foreign travel history dies in Tumkur
BENGALURU:
In a portentous development, Karnataka reported its third Covid-19 death on Friday morning, this time a 65-year-old man who had no history of foreign travel.
The Tumkur district administration confirmed the fact on Friday after the man died at 10:45 a.m. in the Tumkur district hospital.
With this death, the Covid-19 toll in Karnataka has risen to three. The first death, also the first Covid-19 casualty in the country, was that of a 75-year-old man in Kalaburagi district, while a 75-year-old female resident of Chikaballapur died in a Bengaluru hospital.
On March 5, the man travelled in the Karnataka Sampark Kranti to reach Delhi in bogie number S6. He didn’t have a reserved ticket but travelled on an RAC (reservation against cancellation) ticket. On March 7, he alighted at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and went to Jamia Masjid. After attending a conference there, he returned on March 11.
He arrived at Yeshwantpur railway station and travelled back to Sira in a Karnataka state transport bus which was heading to Chitradurga. On March 14, early in the morning, he reached his house in Sira.
“Considering his age factor, he did not step out of his house but on March 18 he developed fever symptoms. The same day he visited the OPD in a private hospital. He was given regular OPD treatment. On March 21, an X-ray was done in a private clinic but later on March 23 he was admitted in the Tumkur district hospital, from where he went against medical advice to get admitted in a private hospital. As the patient had acute respiratory problems, he was again admitted to the district hospital at 3 a.m. on March 24. His swab samples were sent for testing and he was admitted in the isolation ward. On Friday morning the report came, and he died at 10:45 a.m,” the deputy commissioner Rakesh Kumar said.
