Bengaluru: The illicit drug trade continues to thrive, with traffickers finding ways to evade law enforcement. In a significant operation, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a man for transporting cannabis disguised as vegetables. Authorities seized 333 kg of cannabis valued at ₹3.57 crore, marking the largest drug haul of the year. The operation targeted a network supplying narcotics illegally to Chamarajanagar district.

The arrested individual, identified as Ravi, was apprehended near Nayandahalli Metro Station while driving a container truck filled with vegetables. Acting on a tip-off, the CCB team intercepted the vehicle and, upon inspection, discovered large bundles of cannabis hidden beneath the vegetables.

Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated, “This is a significant seizure for the Bengaluru City Police, and we are continuously conducting operations against drug trafficking. Today’s operation has resulted in a record seizure of 332 kg of cannabis, which is unprecedented. Along with the drugs, we also confiscated a goods vehicle and a mobile phone from the suspect.”

During the investigation, it was revealed that the cannabis was being transported from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, with plans to distribute it through Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Malavalli to reach Chamarajanagar. The CCB received assistance from Upparpet and Kadugodi police in this operation, which has garnered praise from the Commissioner for their effective collaboration.

BJP MLA Suresh Kumar expressed concerns about the increasing drug menace around educational institutions, stating, “I have heard that drug-related activities are on the rise near colleges and schools.”

Home Minister G Parameshwar added, “Drugs have been coming in from Tirupati, and just yesterday, we seized around ₹7 crore worth of narcotics. This is a daily occurrence.”

The police remain vigilant in their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the city, ensuring that such operations continue to disrupt the illegal drug trade.
