Kalaburagi village flouts lockdown

KALABURAGI:

Despite lockdown orders and 3 Covid-19 deaths in Kalaburagi, the residents of Ravoor, a village which is a few kilometres away from the district headquarters,  hosted a carnival where hundreds took part in the Siddalingeshwara temple chariot procession.

Kalaburagi district is a deemed hotspot for Covid-19. It reported the first coronavirus death in the country. As of now, the death toll in the district is 3, with 18 active cases.

The fete was held on Thursday morning,  despite district officials and temple trust members agreeing not to go ahead with the event. The village is just 4 km away from Wadi town that has been sealed.  No FIR was filed till late evening by the police, nor was any action taken by the district administration.

After videos of the event created an uproar, the organisers were finally booked for violating the lockdown and putting hundreds of people at risk.
