First dose of free Covishield organized for auto drivers by Bengaluru South MP on Sunday

BENGALURU:

Tejasvi Surya, Bengaluru South MP, successfully organized the first dose of free Covishield vaccination for around 1,000 autorickshaw drivers in a one-day mass vaccination drive in Jayanagar and Bommanahalli on Sunday.

The vaccines were administered at 2 venues — Shalini Ground, Jayanagar 5th Block and RMR Park, Bommanahalli. The drive also completed the vaccination for over 100 walk-in Dunzo, Zomato and Swiggy partners and Ola/Uber taxi drivers. Surya organised the drive in association with Action Covid-19 Team (ACT), Clinikk, United Way and Version 1.

“Auto drivers are one of the most priority sections of our society,” Surya said. “Whether it is an emergency trip to the hospital for a pregnant woman, a family ride to MG Road on the weekend or even your daily return trip from school, auto drivers are at the forefront of delivering this service to people across the country. It is our duty and responsibility to get them all vaccinated at the earliest.”

Rations for auto drivers

The drive was flagged off by Surya and Revenue Minister R Ashoka at the Shalini Ground. More than 80 volunteers, vaccinators, nurses and supervisors helped in the smooth conduct of the drive. The auto drivers were also given ration kits and a free subscription of healthcare service for 6 months from Clinikk.

Surya’s Oxy Bank

Apart from the vaccination drive, Surya has set up an MP Oxy Bank for the doorstep delivery of oxygen concentrators for Covid patients. The MP Oxy Bank supports 512 concentrators, which are provided free of cost on a request to helpline 080 6191 4960. The MP Oxy Bank has catered to more than 500 patients in the last 10 days.

On Sunday, Surya and Ashoka also launched a triaging centre in Kumaraswamy Layout.
