Summer rain brings relief to Bengaluru from scorching heat, several flights diverted to Chennai

BENGALURU: Amid the rising heat, Bengaluru witnessed the first summer rain on Saturday afternoon, which brought the much-needed relief. Intermittent rain continued into the night, posing problems for two-wheeler riders returning home in the evening who were caught unawares.

At least 10 flights to Bengaluru were diverted to Chennai due sudden change in weather. IndiGo and Air India said their scheduled have been impacted due to the weather conditions.ย The Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rain in many districts of the state, including Bengaluru, on Saturday.

Saturdayโ€™s rain wreaked havoc, flooding homes in different parts of the city. At least 10 houses in Yelahankaโ€™s Old Town were inundated and residents were seen clearing water from their homes.

A compound wall collapsed on 6th Main Road near Yelahanka, causing waterlogging. The road was flooded, causing difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians.

Tree falls, blocking roads, were also reported. A fallen tree near Yelahankaโ€™s Vidyaranyapura police limits caused a roadblock. Heavy rain caused waterlogging in Bettahalli Layout. Residents were seen wading through the flooded roads. The unexpected rain, however, brought a smile on peopleโ€™s faces, as it brought relief from the hot weather

Some parts of Bengaluru, including Dasarahalli, Madanayakanahalli and surrounding areas, experienced thunder and rain. The first rain of the year brought smiles to farmers. People who were going from work to home faced problems due to continuous rainfall. People who were cursing the scorching heat were happy with the rain.

The Meteorological Department had said that pre-monsoon rains will be witnessed in Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts. It had warned of rain in Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, Ramanagara and Dakshina Kannada districts today and tomorrow as well.

The IMD had said that dry weather will prevail in the remaining districts and the temperature will be higher than usual.
