UDUPI:
As many as 17 children who were engaged in the work of picking fish at the Malpe port were rescued by a team on Thursday.
Sources said that the rescue operation was a joint operation by Karnataka Women and Child Development, Child Protection Unit, Labour Department and Police, Child Helpline and representatives of Nagarika Seva Trust.
The rescued children hailed from Bellary and Koppal District and were produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
District Child Protection Officer Sadananda Nayak, Labour Officer Kumar, Labour Inspector Praveen and others were part of the official team. (Agency)
