Bengaluru: In yet another fatal BMTC bus accident in just five days, a 60-year-old woman died on Monday morning after a BMTC bus collided with a two-wheeler she was riding pillion on. The tragic incident occurred around 9:30 AM near Kanakapura Road, triggering fresh outrage over the frequent road accidents involving BMTC buses in Bengaluru.
The accident involved a BMTC bus bearing registration number KA 57 4168, operating on the Kanakapura route. According to eyewitnesses, the two-wheeler was carrying the woman and her son-in-law when the speeding bus struck them. The impact threw the woman off the vehicle, and the rear wheels of the bus ran over her head, killing her on the spot. Her son-in-law, who was riding the vehicle, was seriously injured and is currently battling for his life at a hospital.
This marks the second major BMTC-related death in five days. On Friday, 25-year-old Suma, who had stepped onto a footpath near Peenya Phase-2 to collect a food parcel, was killed after an electric BMTC bus veered off course and rammed into a canteen.

Civic activists and citizens have condemned BMTC for repeated instances of rash driving. Many allege that bus drivers, under pressure to meet route targets, often drive recklessly, ignoring nearby two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Residents demand accountability from BMTC officials and call for immediate implementation of safety reforms.
Critics point out that despite daily accidents and growing public anger, the corporation has yet to announce concrete preventive measures. “If BMTC continues with this recklessness, it risks earning the permanent label of ‘Killer BMTC’,” said one outraged commuter.
Authorities have not yet issued a formal statement on the latest incident.
