Mangaluru: Following a severe weather warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the district administrations of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have announced a mandatory holiday for all schools on Monday, June 16th. The closure is a proactive measure due to a red alert issued for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall anticipated along the Karnataka coastline.
Deputy Commissioners of both districts have released separate notifications confirming that all government and private educational institutions, from Anganwadis to high schools, will remain closed.
This decision comes as the region grapples with intensifying monsoon rains, leading to widespread waterlogging, localized flooding, and an increased risk of landslides.
Authorities are strongly advising residents to stay indoors during periods of intense downpour. Schools and educational institutions are urged to implement stringent safety measures when classes resume.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of coastal Karnataka. Disaster management units and emergency response teams are on high alert and prepared to respond to any potential incidents.
