Karnataka CM urges departments to effectively implement SC/ST welfare schemes

BENGALURU:

Chairing a meeting of the Karnataka State Development Council on Friday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said Rs 18,331.54 crore has been allocated for the development of Scheduled Castes and Rs 7,673.47 crore for Scheduled Tribes for 2021-22.

The action plans of all the departments concerned were approved at the meeting.

Keeping the current situation in view, the departments must effectively implement the development programmes for the benefit of SCs and STs, the CM said.

Land allotments to SCs/STs must be issued in joint names, he said. It was decided to increase the subsidy amount given by the Centre and the state from Rs 15,000 each to Rs 20,000 to SC/ST beneficiaries for construction of toilets/bathrooms.

Deputy Chief Ministers Govind Karjol and Laxman Savadi, Social Welfare Minister B Sriramulu, RDPR Minister KS Eshwarappa, legislators Raju Gowda, N Mahesh, S Raghu and Aihole Duryodhana, MP G Umesh Jadhav, Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary N Nagambika Devi were among those present at the meeting.

SC/ST report card for 2020-21

• Rs 18,131.12 crore was provided for the development of SCs and Rs 7,814.78 crore for STs.
• Rs 1,594.40 crore was allotted for agriculture and animal husbandry projects.
• Rs 845.28 crore was allotted to the Women and Child Welfare department for provision of nutritious food and other facilities to SC/ST women and children.
• Rs 910.64 crore was allotted to the Primary and Secondary Education department for SC/ST students’ uniforms, bicycles, fee payments, mid-day meals and other facilities.
• Rs 83.38 crore was allotted to the Higher Education department for facilities for SC/ST college students.
• Under the RDPR department, Swachch Bharat drinking water and MNAREGA projects were implemented at a cost of Rs 2,888.28 crore for SC/ST beneficiaries.
• The Revenue department spent Rs 284.27 crore under social security schemes for SCs/STs.
• The Energy department provided subsidies for 10 HP pumpsets/electricity for borewells under the Ganga Kalyan, Kuteera Jyoti and Bhagya Jyoti schemes to SC/ST farmers at a cost of Rs 2,159.74 crore
• The Housing department provided housing facilities at a cost of Rs 863.41 crore.
• Rs 5,535.88 crore was spent on different projects by the PWD, Urban Development, Water Resources and Planning departments.
• Under the Health and Medical Education department, Rs 1,055.33 crore was spent on various facilities.
• The Food and Civil Supplies department distributed rations to 17.65 lakh SC and 7.28 lakh ST families under the Annabhagya scheme at a cost of Rs 780.97 crore.
• Under the Social Welfare department, Rs 3,200.87 crore for SCs and Rs 1,270.50 crore for STs was spent on scholarships, hostels and residential school management, subsidies and other welfare programmes.
