Bommai lays foundation for Kuruba students’ hostel and community hall
SHIGGAVI/HAVERI:
A special grant of Rs 20 crore has been provided for various development works in Shiggavi town. This is the first time that such a big amount had been provided for the development of the constituency, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
Great importance is being given to children’s education, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Haveri on Sunday.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a 750 KV power distribution station to supply power to houses being built by Karnataka State Slum Development Board, a Kuruba students’ hostel and a community hall at Ganjigatti village in Shiggavi. This would give a big boost for industrialisation and stabilising power supply in Shiggavi, he said.
“The foundation stone has been laid today for the construction of the Kuruba students’ hostel and a community hall at a cost of Rs 3 crore,” Bommai said. He praised the villagers of Ganjigatti for their cooperation in development of the taluk.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of the three ‘E’s– Education, Employment and Empowerment — for development of any community. The construction of a student hostel in this backdrop is most appropriate, he said.
Land of sages
The land of Kanakadasa and Santa Shishunala Sharief has the intrinsic quality of spirituality and equality. Kanakadasa’s message against the caste divide is relevant even today and we need to imbibe that spirit in our lives, Bommai said.

Thanking the Kuruba community for gifting him a ‘black blanket’ and a sheep, Bommai said it symbolises living to serve others. The gesture of Ganjigatti villagers would not go in vain, he said, and added that he would work for their overall development.
