Bengaluru: In a key development for Karnataka’s industrial landscape, global engineering giant Rolls-Royce held high-level discussions with State Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The meeting focused on the company’s investment and expansion plans in Karnataka, especially in the defence and aerospace sectors, and possible technology collaborations.
The Rolls-Royce delegation comprised Phil Priest, Global Director; Tom Candlerkal, Head of Business Services – India; and Gayatri Sharma, Head of Defence – India. They explored long-term possibilities of enhancing their footprint in the state, including the company’s Bengaluru unit expansion.
The timing of the meeting is significant, coming a day after the Karnataka government announced the withdrawal of land acquisition proposals in Devanahalli taluk for a proposed high-tech aerospace and defence park, keeping farmers’ interests in mind.
Following the talks, Minister Patil said, “We showcased Karnataka’s industrial strengths, its modern technical ecosystem, and progressive industrial policies. Rolls-Royce officials expressed interest in expanding collaboration and were especially appreciative of the long-term vision being implemented in the state.”
He assured investors that ample land is available in multiple locations across Karnataka for industrial development. “There is no need for concern; land will be provided wherever required,” he added. The Minister further emphasized that Karnataka is being recognized globally and that the government’s initiatives will match these expectations.
Senior officials including Principal Secretary Selvakumar and Commissioner Gunjan Krishna of the Industries Department were present at the meeting.
