Ritu Raj Awasthi is new CJ of Karnataka High Court

Transferred from Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, Awasthi succeeds Justice Abhay Oka as Karnataka CJ

BENGALURU:

Ritu Raj Awasthi has been appointed the new Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium finalised the appointments and transfers of Chief Justices in 13 High Courts of the country. Ritu Raj Awasthi is presently a senior judge at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.

Born on July 3, 1960, Justice Awasthi worked as Assistant Solicitor General of India at Lucknow before his elevation as additional judge on April 13, 2009. He took the oath as a permanent judge on December 24, 2010.

Graduating in Law from Lucknow University in 1986, Justice Awasthi enrolled as an advocate on February 1, 1987. He has practised in civil, service and educational matters at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.
