On February 26, a delegation of the Karnataka Resident Doctors Association had met Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar and submitted their appeal for a pay revision. Dr.Sudhakar had discussed the issue with ACS Jawaid Akhthar, VC of RGUHS Dr.Sachidanand and Director Medical Education Dr.Girish, and a proposal was sent to the finance department.

The hikes are as follows:

Resident doctors – Rs 30,000, PG students 1st year – Rs 45,000, PG students 2nd year – Rs 50,000, PG students 3rd year – Rs 55,000, Super Speciality students 1st year – Rs 55,000, 2nd year – Rs 60,000, 3rd year — Rs 65,000. Government service doctors will get Rs 60,000. The hike will benefit more than 6,000 medical students across the state.

Dr.K.Sudhakar thanked the CM for responding positively to his request for hiking the stipends of the doctors and medicos. “The revision of stipends will boost their morale and encourage them to work with more enthusiasm,” he said.

Govt move lauded

At a time when some other state governments have cut salaries of doctors due to a Covid-related financial crunch, doctors have lauded the Karnataka government’s decision to revise stipends.

Dr. Dayanand Sagar, member of the Karnataka Resident Doctors’ Association, said, “We welcome the government order to increase stipends by 40 per cent.”
