Rajasthan’s Phalodi records maximum temperature of 49.8 degrees on Sunday

NEW DELHI :  Large parts of the Northern India continue to reel under a fierce heat wave with temperatures soaring over 45 degree Celsius at many places in the country on Sunday.

According to the observation recorded on May 26, the maximum temperature has been recorded in Rajasthan’s Phalodi at 49.8 degree Celsius, as per IMD.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 48.3 degree Celsius, Jhansi in Uttarakhand recorded 47.7 degrees and in Punjab’s Faridkot, the maximum temparature was recorded at 47.4 degrees.

As per IMD, Yeotmal (Interior Maharashtra) recorded the maximum temperature of 46.6 degrees, Sagar in Madhya Pradesh recorded 46.2 degrees, Adilabad in Telangana recorded 44.8 degrees. The maximum temperature in Himachal Pradesh’s Una was recorded at 44. 4 degrees, VV Nagar in Gujarat saw the maximum temperature reaching as far as 43.7 degrees and Raipur in Chhattisgarh witnessed the maximum temperature reaching 43.0 degrees, as per IMD.

The IMD said heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed over most parts of Rajasthan and in some parts of Delhi on Sunday.
As per the IMD, heat wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, interior Maharashtra and West Mahya Pradesh and in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh.

The soaring temperatures came amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the country.

Earlier, senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar told ANI that there would be no respite from heat wave for the next 4-5 days in the Delhi-National Capital Region.

“Delhi NCR will face heatwave to severe heatwave today (May 26). At some stations, temperatures may reach 47 degrees… The temperature will remain the same for the next three days. After that, there may be some relief… There is no rain forecast for the next 4-5 days. After that, there may be rain in the Himalayas due to western disturbance and there may be a cloudy atmosphere in Northern India,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to continue in the northern parts of the country in the next three to four days. The India Meteorological Department said severe heatwave conditions would continue in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and other northern parts of the country for the next few days.

In a post on X, IMD said, “Heatwave to severe heat wave is very likely over many parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh on 27th May 2024 and heat wave is very likely over isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat.” (ANI)
