BBMP chief Gaurav Gupta and local MLA Suresh Kumar tell officials to speed up flyover’s ‘finishing touches’

BENGALURU:

The much-awaited 655-metre-long grade separator flyover at Shivanagar 1st Main Road and 8th Main Road in Shivanagar, West of Chord Road, Rajajinagar, is complete and now awaits only a suitable time for its inauguration by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

On Monday, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, accompanied by former Minister and Rajajinagar MLA Suresh Kumar, inspected the finishing touches to the flyover. Gupta instructed the officials concerned to complete the few remaining minor works quickly.

Work on the flyover at West of Chord Road’s Manjunath Nagar, the underpass at Shivanagar junction and the flyover at Basaveshwara Circle was initiated in 2016. While the Manjunath Nagar flyover work has been completed and opened for vehicular movement, the project at Shivanagar junction was changed from an underpass to a flyover and is still a work in progress.

Grade separator

Accordingly, the grade separator flyover at Shivanagar 1st Main Road and 8th Main Road in Shivanagr has been built at a cost of Rs 71.98 crore. The flyover will have a 7.5 metre-wide carriageway with 4 two-way lanes. The pending work includes asphalting of the ramp, and beautification work such as street lamps, and saplings at the median and under the flyover.

Meanwhile, the flyover work at Basaveshwara Junction and 72nd Cross Rajajinagar continues and the officials have been instructed to expedite the construction.

Rajajinagar playground

Regarding the playground near Rajajinagar Parents School, being developed at a cost of Rs 2 crore, most of the work, including the boundary wall of the ground, has been completed. The officials were instructed by the Chief Commissioner to expedite the work. Local MLA Suresh Kumar requested Gupta to sanction an additional amount of Rs 2.5 crore for other development work around the playground.

Havanur Circle to Shankar Math Circle

The Chief Commissioner instructed officials to asphalt the road from Havanur Circle to Shankar Math Circle, which is in a bad condition. MLA Suresh Kumar asked the officials to model the work so as to make it easier for large vehicles to take a turn from Shankar Math Circle towards Basaveshwara Nagar.

Rajajinagar multipurpose building

Meanwhile, construction work at the multipurpose building at Rajajinagar 9th Main Road is in progress and 40% of the work is complete. An amount of Rs 3.50 crore has been provided for the work from the legislator’s fund.

Dayanandanagar ward multipurpose building

Around 60 per cent of the work on the multipurpose building in Dayanandanagar ward has been completed. A further amount of Rs 3 crore has been provided from the legislator’s fund to complete the pending work and a tender has been called.

The dilapidated school building next to the multipurpose building will be demolished and a ‘skill development’ centre will be constructed. This will benefit children residing in the slums nearby. MLA Suresh Kumar said Rs 5 crore has been released for the purpose under the Nagarothana grant and the tender process is under way. The Chief Commissioner instructed the zonal Joint Commissioner to identify dilapidated buildings in the west zone and submit a report.

Zonal Joint Commissioner Shivaswamy, Chief Engineer (Project) M Lokesh, Zonal Chief Engineer Vishwanath and others were present.
