Ballari/Bengaluru: In a major crackdown under Operation ‘NARCOS’, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP), recovered 36 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately ₹36 lakh at Ballari railway station on Saturday.
The seizure took place on August 2, during a special anti-narcotics drive when officials inspected Train No. 18111 Tata–Yesvantpur Express upon its arrival at Ballari station. During the check, four unattended bags were found in the general coach. Despite public enquiries, no passenger came forward to claim ownership of the bags.
Upon opening, the bags were found to contain around 36 kg of ganja, following which they were seized by the Station In-Charge of GRP as per procedure.
A case has been registered at GRP/Ballari under Crime No. 22/25, invoking Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, dated August 2, 2025. Further investigation into the origin and destination of the illegal consignment is currently underway.
This seizure is part of the Indian Railways’ ongoing effort to curb drug smuggling via railway networks, and authorities have ramped up surveillance and intelligence-sharing mechanisms under Operation ‘NARCOS’, aimed at targeting narcotics trafficking through passenger trains.
