BENGALURU: In a recent development, the 33rd ACJM court has handed down a verdict in the case involving Rahul Tonse, who was found guilty of cheating actress Sanjana Galrani out of Rs 45 lakh. The court has ordered Tonse to pay a fine of Rs 61.50 lakh and serve a 6-month jail sentence.
Rahul Tonse, also known as Rahul Shetty and a resident of Banashankari 3rd phase, was accused of deceiving Sanjana Galrani in 2018-19 by promising high returns on her investment in real estate. Despite investing Rs 45 lakh, Galrani did not receive any property registration as promised by Tonse.
Following a series of events, including bounced cheques and threats to her life, Galrani filed a complaint against Tonse, his father Ramakrishna, and mother Rajeshwari at the Indiranagar police station. The charges against them include cheating, criminal conspiracy, threatening life, and using obscene language.
The court has ordered Tonse to pay the remaining Rs 61.40 lakh to Galrani, deducting Rs 10,000 for court fees. Failure to comply with the fine payment within the specified time frame will result in a 6-month jail term. However, if the fine is paid on time, the jail sentence will be waived.
