JC Nagar locals block road, MLA wants officer replaced
BENGALURU:
Following what was perceived as ‘high-handed’ action by JC Nagar nodal officer SG Ravindra in clearing footpath encroachments on Wednesday, angry locals blocked the road and demanded that he be transferred immediately.
Ravindra, who is BBMP Special Commissioner (Welfare), was among the nodal officers for the city’s 198 wards appointed 2 days ago by BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad.
Among those threatened with eviction for not having a licence was a disabled person who has been doing business there for over 10 years.
Hebbal MLA Byrathi Suresh and former corporator Abdul Wajid visited the protest site and stopped the eviction process. They reportedly told Ravindra that he had no right to evict shop keepers.
Later, Byrathi Suresh called the BBMP Commissioner and demanded that the nodal officer be replaced.
