BENGALURU:
One of the city’s notorious potholes claimed the life of a teenaged girl on Friday. Nubia (17), a resident of Goripalya off Mysuru Road, was riding triples on a scooter when the two-wheeler went out of control while negotiating a pothole. She fell from the scooter, and a truck coming from behind ran over her, killing her on the spot. The incident occurred near Kachohalli Cross on Magadi Road in the Madanayakanahalli police station limits on the outskirts of the city.
The other two on the scooter, Nubia’s sister Agrin (15) and Ahran, who was riding the two-wheeler, have been hospitalised with serious injuries.
The police said the trio was returning from Tavarekere when the accident occurred at around 10.40 am as they were passing near Madhava Hospital in Chikkagollarahatti near Kachohalli Cross. Ahran reportedly lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole and the trio fell from the scooter. A speeding truck coming from the rear ran over Nubia and hit the other two.
Truck driver absconding
“Nubia was killed on the spot while the other two were rushed to a hospital. We have seized the truck and are on the look-out for the driver who is absconding,” the Madanayakanhalli police, who have registered a case, said.
Cop died at same spot
Two days ago, C Krishnappa, a 57-year-old sub-inspector with the excise department, died at the same spot on Wednesday afternoon when a truck ran over him, killing him on the spot.
Meanwhile, BBMP has clarified that the accident spot does not fall under its limits and the road is looked after by the Kachohalli Gram Panchayat, which is around 17 km from the BBMP head office.
Strictly speaking It’s IPC 304A which should be charged against all concerned authorities from top management to the lowest official concerns for the lapse in discharging their primary duty of safety of citizens by apportioning available funds fo such necessities and attending to such potholes etc immediately by hilighting them till they fill up .
Deaths due to poorly designed speed breakers and without hilighting them with white colour strips . Not illuminating the medians during night with reflectors , and all such safety shortcomings resulting in death of people would strictly attract IPC 304 A section. Only no authority acts to book nor Judiciary takes responsibility to bell the cat in such cases
The Authorities responsible shiuld be arrested the strictest legal action initiated under appropriate ILC sections. This taking lives and safety of citizens for granted for too long. The Judiciary should have taken up these issues long back and held the concerned departments responsible. It is already too late and too many lives have been lost. When will the Government wakeup ? Whan will the judcialy crack its whip on the erring offcials ? Are we going to wait for more deaths on these notorious roads with potholes and unscntifically built speed breakers ?
