A film distributor residing in Australia was arrested by the Bengaluru police on Friday for alleged sexual harassment.
Roopesh, 39, had recently distributed movies like ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ and ‘Rangitaranga’. The complainant, an NRI, met Roopesh in Australia. According to her complaint, he took intimate pictures of her and blackmailed her for money and sexual favours. Even after she came to Bengaluru, Roopesh allegedly continued to harass her.
Following her complaint to the North Division police, Roopesh was arrested from his residence near J P Park in Yeshwantpur.
According to the complaint, Roopesh had allegedly spiked her drink when they were at a restaurant in Melbourne, and had taken pictures of her when she was not in her proper senses. Later, he started blackmailing her and threatened to share her photos with her family and post them on social media.
The Nandini Layout police have filed cases under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354 (assault or criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman), 343 (wrongful confinement) and 383 (extortion) of the IPC against the film distributor.
