On-Duty Karnataka Police Constable Dies by Suspected Suicide Inside Police Van in Kalaburagi; Probe Underway
Kalaburagi, July 8: An on-duty police constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself inside a police van deployed at Jagat Circle in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi city on Tuesday, police said.
Confirming the incident, Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. D. said the deceased has been identified as Shivakumar, a constable serving with the City Armed Reserve.
According to the Police Commissioner, preliminary information suggests that the constable may have taken the extreme step due to personal reasons. However, the exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be established.
“The police constable Shivakumar, who was working in the City Armed Reserve, shot himself inside a police van that was deployed at Jagat Circle. As per the preliminary information available, it appears that he decided to end his life due to personal reasons,” the Commissioner said.
Senior police officers and a forensic team reached the spot soon after the incident and have begun collecting evidence as part of the investigation.
The Police Commissioner said the investigation would also take into account any complaint or representation submitted by the deceased constable’s family.
“We are present at the scene along with the forensic team. Whatever complaint the family gives, we will register the case accordingly and conduct a thorough investigation,” he said.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
