BENGALURU:

Total sealing of localities in the city is now a reality, as BBMP has decided to quarantine two wards –Bapuji Nagar (ward 134) and Padarayanapura (ward 135) — for 14 days, with immediate effect, to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus. The wards are densely populated and have recorded 3 positive cases so far. All essential products will be delivered at the residents’ doorstep during the lockdown.

With the wards now sealed, BBMP will conduct a health survey with the help of nurses and Asha workers. Teams have been set up and thermal scanning will be done at two entrances to the area.

About 70 teams of Asha workers and medical staff, assisted by the Bengaluru city police, will be on Covid-19 surveillance duty in these two areas of Bengaluru that have been sealed geographically to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Mayor M Gautham Kumar told that the reason behind sealing the two wards is that these are thickly populated areas and people there were defying the lockdown.

Meanwhile, police commissioner Bhaskar Rao clarified that only two wards have been sealed and not all Bengaluru city.

The decision to seal these two wards was taken after five positive cases were reported from these areas. “All essential services will be provided at door steps by BBMP,” said Rao.
