No Rush to Decision on Caste Census, Deputy Chief Minister Assures

Date:

BENGALURU/MANGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated on Sunday that the state government will carefully consider the socio-economic survey, commonly known as the caste census, before making any decisions. He emphasized the Congress party’s dedication to empowering marginalized communities and ensuring justice for all.

“We are committed to empowering the oppressed and ensuring justice for all. We will not rush into any decisions on this matter,” Shivakumar said during a press conference in Mangaluru. When asked about Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent letter regarding the caste census, Shivakumar mentioned that he had not yet seen the letter.

He reiterated the Congress party’s focus on promoting equitable development and inclusive justice. “I have not seen the letter. The Congress party is dedicated to advancing all communities equally. Our goal is to provide justice for everyone. We have never expressed any intention to be unjust to anyone. Empowering marginalized communities is our top priority,” he explained.

Shivakumar also pointed out that poverty affects all communities, including specific groups like Jains, Vokkaligas, and Lingayats, to emphasize the inclusive nature of the Congress party’s agenda. “There are impoverished individuals in all communities, and justice will be served to everyone,” he added.
