CM calls it irreparable loss to Kannada literature
BENGALURU:
Noted Kannada literateur Prof. KS Nissar Ahmed, 84, passed away at his residence on Sunday after ailing since the last few days. He was fondly known as the ‘Nityotsava’ (celebration of every day) poet of Kannada.
Kokkare Hosahalli Sheikh Haider Nissar Ahmed was born on February 5, 1936 at Devanahalli. His works include Manasu Gandhi, Bazaru, Nityotsava, Sanje Aidara Male and Manadondige Mathukathe.
His anthology of poems, titled Anaamika Anglaru, won the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award in 1982. He was the recipient of the Padma Shri, Pampa and Rajyotsava awards. Prof Ahmed had earlier worked as assistant geologist in the Mysore Mines at Kalaburagi and as lecturer in Geology at Central College, Bengaluru.
He chaired the 73rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana Iat Shivamogga in 2006 and also inaugurated the 407th edition of Dasara.
CM condolence
Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa condoled the death of Prof Nisar Ahmed, saying the late poet had contributed some of the best works in all genres of Kannada literature. He had a special bonding with Shivamogga as he had worked there for some years.
The Chief Minister described Nisar Ahmed’s death as an “irreparable loss” to the state and to the Kannada literary world.
