Nanjangud firm is Covid-19 ‘hot spot’

4 new cases, 10 in all reported from pharma company

Of five new Covid-19 cases reported in Karnataka, Nanjangud in Mysuru alone has alarmingly registered four new positive cases from the pharma company there. The total number of cases in the state is now 88, including the 13-year-old son of a Covid-19 casualty from Tumkur district.

The state health department faces a big challenge as 10 positive cases have been reported from the Nanjangud pharma company. Mysuru district as a whole has 12 positive cases.

The health department bulletin claims the four new cases were working in the Nanjangud pharma company.

Meanwhile, the Mysore district administration has doubled down on sanitizing measures by taking up disinfection of the surrounding areas in Nanjangud.

Speaking at a video presser, additional chief secretary Jawaid Akhtar said, “We are in the process of identifying how patient 52 got infected. We have also taken the swab samples from the packaging material which this pharmaceutical company had received from China.”

Akhtar said the swab samples have been sent to the Institute of virology. “As the pharmaceutical company reportedly receives materials from China and as per a tip-off, we are following this procedure to check the facts. I don’t think we can conclude on these samples but we are trying to get some leads,” he said.

The new cases are as follows:

# P84: 13-year-old male, resident of Tumkur and son of P60. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Tumkur.

# P85: 32-year-old male, resident of Nanjangud, Mysuru. Preliminary investigation indicates that he is working in the same pharmaceutical company as P52. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Mysuru.

# P86: 34-year-old male, resident of Nanjangud, Mysuru. Preliminary investigation indicates that he is working in the same pharmaceutical company as P52. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Mysuru.

# P87: 21-year-old male, resident of Nanjangud, Mysurur. Preliminary investigation indicates that he is working in the same pharmaceutical company as P52. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Mysuru.

# P88: 24-year-old male, resident of Nanjangud, Mysuru. Preliminary investigation indicates that he is working in the same pharmaceutical company as P52. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Mysuru..
