Home Minister says senior police officers are in Mysuru to help with the rape probe

BENGALURU:

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Wednesday that a special investigation team has been formed to nab the accused in the gang-rape of a Mysuru collegian on Tuesday night.

Terming the incident ‘most unfortunate’, the minister said, “Senior police officials have rushed to Mysuru and are guiding the police investigating the incident.”

Jnanendra said the incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night and an FIR has been lodged in the case. Stating that he has directed the police to take the issue very seriously, he added, “I also plan to visit Mysuru and take stock of the incident.”

Minister ‘hurt’

According to preliminary reports, the hospital where the victim was admitted on Tuesday night provided information on the incident.

Replying to questions, the minister said, “The police will make all efforts to nab the culprits,” and added, “The incident has hurt me a lot.”
