Late on Sunday, the railway police apprehended three individuals on charges of vandalism for placing a wooden block and iron saws on the railway tracks. The incident came to light when the pilot of the Chamarajanagar to Mysore express train, carriage no. 06275, skillfully avoided a potential disaster between Nanjangudu and Kadakola railway stations on the evening of November 12.
The pilot’s quick thinking ensured the safety of the passengers and thwarted a malicious attempt to sabotage the train. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Police (GRP) have arrested three suspects, identified as Somay Marandi (22), Bhajanu Murmu, and Dasamath Marandi, in connection with the incident.
The accused deliberately placed the iron saws and wooden blocks on the rails at Kilometer No. 19/200-300, resulting in the halt of train carriage number 06275.
Upon receiving the information, Mysore Railway Protection Force (RPF) Assistant Defense Commissioner MNA Khan, Post Commander KV Venkatesh, and their team, along with the RFF dog squad, swiftly arrived at the scene and prevented the accident. Somay Marandi, a resident of Mayurbanj, Odisha state, was found at the location. During interrogation, Marandi and his accomplices confessed to the sabotage attempt.
The accused have been handed over to the Mysore Government Railway Police for further investigation. A case was registered on November 13, 2023, under the Railway Act-1989. Officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the accused individuals may face life imprisonment if convicted.
Train number 06275 experienced a delay from 18:30 to 18:45 hours due to an incident. Shilpi Agarwal, the Mysore Divisional Railway Manager, commended the train driver for their prompt action and praised the security forces for their quick response. She also expressed concern for the safety and well-being of the passengers.
In light of this incident, the general public is strongly advised against engaging in any activities on the tracks that pose a significant risk to passengers and can result in loss of life. Lohiteshwaji, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, emphasized in a media statement that the railway administration will take strict action against anyone found responsible for such actions.
