Cardiac arrest the immediate cause; swab sent for Covid test

MANDYA:

After recording a dangerously high spike of 171 Covid-19 cases in the last few days, Mandya has been troubled anew with the death of an elderly woman in quarantine on Tuesday night.

The immediate cause of death of the 65-year-old woman was reportedly a cardiac arrest at the quarantine centre in the Morarji Desai Residential School at Somanahalli of Nagamangala taluk. However, only a test can confirm if the woman was infected with the deadly virus.

Sources in the health department said the woman had returned from Mumbai on May 17 and was placed under quarantine.

“Until late in the evening, she was perfectly normal. She was fine. After returning from the washroom, she complained of a chest pain and suddenly collapsed,” a health official said. He added, “Swab samples of the woman have been taken and the report is awaited.”

The deceased was a native of Juttanahalli in Nagamangala taluk, and had been staying in Mumbai with her family for the past several years.
