BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta exhorts team to step up efforts to meet property tax target of Rs 4,000 crore for FY 22
BENGALURU:
With barely 46 business days left for the end of the current financial year on March 31, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is seemingly dreaming of the impossible – meeting its targeted property tax collection of Rs 4,000 crore for fiscal 2022.
As per the civic agency, property tax collections were Rs 2,667.77 crore as of January 25, while revenue officials have been tasked with mopping up the remaining Rs 1,332.23 crore of the targeted amount by the end of this fiscal.
On Wednesday, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, despite being in home isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, reviewed the matter and expressed unhappiness over the quantum of property tax collected so far.

‘Use advanced methods’
“The property tax collection target must be reached efficiently in BBMP limits and for that, necessary steps should be taken to make use of any advanced methods if found necessary,” Gupta instructed his revenue team.
Addressing a virtual meeting of civic officials, he said Revenue Officers and Assistant Revenue officers should be pro-active in collecting property taxes, and notices should be issued to citizens who haven’t paid their property tax.
Properties that are not yet included should be brought into the property tax net, and if any ‘advanced’ methods are required for the purpose, the necessary steps should be taken, he said.
