BENGALURU:

A massive vaccination campaign targeting 5 lakh people is being launched across Bengaluru on Friday, according to BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta. The main driver will be a huge vaccination centre at Kodandarapura in Malleswaram, he said.

The BBMP chief noted that 80 per cent of Bengalureans have been vaccinated while 19 lakh eligible beneficiaries in the BBMP limits are yet to get the first dose.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, he said that at least 10 vaccination centres, including 1 or 2 fixed sites, have been set up in each ward. All preparations are in place, and NGOs are reaching out to eligible persons.

Vaccination will be administered from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm in Urban PHCs & 8.00 am to 5.00 pm in outreach sessions.

PHCs open 8 am to 8 pm

A total of 2,178 vaccine centres have been set up in the city, with 4 lakh Covishield and 1 lakh Covaxin vaccines distributed to all the centres. Private hospitals are also part of the vaccination programme. To achieve the ambitious target, PHCs in the city will work from 8 am to 8 pm and outreach sessions will be from 8 am to 5 pm, Gupta said.

Special vaccination camps will be held for hotel workers, slum-dwellers, street vendors, and factory and building workers, he said.

Break-through infections

Meanwhile, of the 350 fresh Covid cases in Bengaluru on Thursday, 32 were admitted to the ICU. The cases include patients who were already inoculated.
