Dr Ashwath Narayan, Malleswaram MLA, says conditions in the constituency have improved hugely

BENGALURU:

There is an ‘ulterior motive’ behind demonstrations against developmental works in Malleswaram constituency, according to Minister for Higher Education Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who is the MLA from the constituency.

His reaction followed demonstrations on Sunday claiming that the works in the constituency were causing inconvenience to citizens. Dr Narayan said the protestors could have openly declared their party affiliations but carry out protests in the name of citizens.

According to the Minister, every resident of Malleswaram knows how bad things were 15 years ago, when there was a scarcity of drinking water, the underground drainage system was in a dilapidated condition, playgrounds had become driving lots and children could not access playgrounds as they were reserved for exhibitions. But today the scenario has completely changed, and such demonstrations are actually “anti-people”, he said.

The UGD pipes in the constituency were 60-70 years older and were in a miserable condition. Waste water could not flow easily through manholes. Now there are new pipes and precast manholes in Malleswaram, Narayan said.

“It is inevitable that roads are dug up when any development work needs to be taken up. But to avoid inconvenience to citizens, they are being resurfaced immediately”, the Minister said.

Sankey Tank in the constituency is being developed considering its importance as a prominent lung space. The works here are being taken up by taking the Sankey Tank Walkers Association into confidence, and will be completed within a month, he said.
