Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has officially notified the restructuring of posts from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). As part of this restructuring, senior IAS officer Maheshwar Rao M. (KN: 1995) has been appointed as the first Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Bengaluru.
According to the order issued by the Urban Development Department on August 29, 2025, the following postings have been made with immediate effect:
Maheshwar Rao M., IAS (KN: 1995): Appointed as Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Munish Moudgil, IAS (KN: 1998): Appointed as Special Commissioner (Admin, Revenue, IT), Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Surlakar Vikas Kishor, IAS (KN: 2012): Appointed as Special Commissioner (Health and Education), Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Dr. Harish Kumar K., IAS (KN: 2012): Appointed as Special Commissioner (Finance) cum Chief Financial Officer, Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Preeti Gehlot, IAS (KN: 2016): Appointed as Special Commissioner (FECC, Elections, Disaster Management, PR and Co-ordination), Greater Bengaluru Authority.
The notification clarifies that the post of Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority, will hold the same status and responsibilities as that of an Additional Chief Secretary to the Government.
With this, Maheshwar Rao becomes the first-ever Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, marking a significant administrative shift aimed at strengthening Bengaluru’s governance model.
