MADIKERI:
A KSRTC bus hit a traffic island in the heart of the city, toppling down the statue of former Chief of Army Staff, General Thimmayya, early today morning.
The bus driver reportedly tried to avoid a pickup truck which cut his way and, in the process, hit the traffic island, causing the statue of General Thimmayya to fall.
The bus was heading from the Madikeri bus stand to the depot when the incident occurred. Only the bus driver and conductor were present and they sustained minor injuries. The were no passengers in the bus. The Madikeri Town police visited the spot.
