DC’s order follows local concern over virus risk from ‘casual’ tourists

KODAGU:

Hotels, resorts, lodges and homestays in Kodagu district have been directed to stop all tourist bookings from outside the district.

The order was issued by the Kodagu Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday as part of precautionary measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the district.

Local residents have expressed their concern to the DC over the casual attitude of tourists vis-a-vis safety protocols.

However, the order makes an exception for tourists who have already arrived in the district. Those who have made advance bookings should be informed of the new rule and their bookings should be cancelled.

The DC’s order also makes an exception for persons who have come in an emergency/ medical emergency situation. However, they should provide all relevant details to the jurisdictional police station/ urban local body/village panchayat.

Violations of the order will invite penal action under Section 188 of the IPC.
